Ingredients
Scale
Dough
- 1 thin crust pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup diced onions
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese
Finishing
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat and sauté onions: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Cook and season ground beef: Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, then season with salt, pepper, and minced garlic, stirring to combine.
- Add vegetables and seasoning: Stir in sliced bell peppers, black olives (if using), and Italian seasoning. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until vegetables soften slightly while retaining some crunch.
- Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll the pizza dough into a 10×14-inch rectangle, ensuring an even thickness for uniform baking.
- Assemble the filling: Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella and cheddar cheese generously over the filling.
- Roll and seal the bread: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough encasing the filling. Pinch the ends shut and place the roll seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Prepare for baking: Make a few slits on top of the roll to allow steam to escape. Brush the top with beaten egg for a golden brown finish.
- Bake and cool: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden and sounds hollow when tapped. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use a sharp knife to make slits on the bread roll top to prevent bursting during baking.
- Ensure the dough is rolled evenly to bake uniformly and avoid undercooked or overcooked spots.
- Optional black olives add extra flavor but can be omitted for a milder taste.
- Allow the bread roll to cool slightly before slicing to prevent filling from spilling out.
- Use an egg wash for a glossy, golden crust; substitute with milk or melted butter if preferred.
