Ingredients
Scale
Pastry
- 1 sheet Puff Pastry (store-bought)
Cheese & Sauce
- 8 ounces Brie Cheese (can substitute with Camembert for stronger flavor)
- 1 cup Cranberry Sauce (fig or apricot preserves can be used for a unique twist)
Meat
- 4 ounces Pancetta (omit for vegetarian version or use toasted nuts as substitute)
Herbs & Others
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Thyme (replace with rosemary or omit if unavailable)
- 1 large Egg (beaten, optional, can omit for vegan recipe)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness, then transfer it onto the prepared baking sheet leaving some overhang at the edges.
- Cook Pancetta: Dice the pancetta and cook it in a skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until crispy. Drain off excess fat to ensure the tart is not greasy.
- Assemble Tart: Spread the cranberry sauce evenly over the puff pastry, then layer slices of Brie on top, followed by the cooked pancetta pieces.
- Form Border: Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling, pinching to form a rustic border. Brush the pastry edges with the beaten egg to help with browning.
- Bake: Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and flaky.
- Garnish & Serve: Allow the tart to cool slightly, then garnish with fresh thyme before serving. Enjoy warm for the best flavor.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the pancetta and consider using toasted nuts for added texture.
- A vegan version can be made by omitting the egg wash and using a vegan puff pastry and cheese alternative.
- Camembert cheese can be substituted for Brie for a stronger, earthier flavor.
- Try fig or apricot preserves instead of cranberry sauce for a sweeter, more complex flavor profile.
- Make sure to drain the cooked pancetta well to prevent excess grease in the tart.
