Ingredients
Scale
Chicken and Marinade
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking chicken)
Garlic Sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
Wrap Fillings
- 4 large flour tortillas (can substitute whole wheat or gluten-free)
- 1 cup fresh spinach leaves
- 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (red, yellow, or green)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or gouda cheese (or pepper jack for a spicy twist)
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts evenly with salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning, rubbing the spices in well to ensure full flavor penetration.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the chicken breasts and cook for 6 to 7 minutes on each side, until golden brown and fully cooked through. Remove chicken from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes to retain juices.
- Make the Garlic Sauce: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil if necessary. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, taking care not to burn it. Pour in the chicken broth or water to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits for added flavor. Let the sauce reduce slightly.
- Slice the Chicken: After resting, slice the chicken breasts into thin strips to make them easier to wrap and mix with the other ingredients.
- Assemble the Wraps: Lay out the tortillas flat. Spread a generous spoonful of the garlic sauce over each tortilla. Add a layer of sliced chicken, followed by fresh spinach leaves, sliced bell peppers, and a generous sprinkle of shredded cheese. Roll up the tortillas tightly and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use fresh garlic for the best aroma and taste; garlic powder can be substituted in a pinch but will be less vibrant.
- Feel free to swap chicken breasts with turkey or shredded beef for a different take on the wraps.
- Customize your wraps with additional veggies like avocado or cucumbers for extra freshness and texture.
- Substitute flour tortillas with whole wheat or gluten-free wraps to accommodate dietary preferences.
- Add crushed red pepper flakes when seasoning the chicken if you desire some heat.
