Ingredients
Scale
Base Mixture
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup sugar cookie mix (dry mix from the pouch)
- 1 bag marshmallows (10 ounces, about 40 large marshmallows)
Cereal and Mix-ins
- 6 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
- 1/3 cup mini marshmallows
- 2 tbsp sprinkles (Christmas or other color)
- Additional sprinkles (Christmas or other color) for decoration
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Grease a 9″x13″ baking tray with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Melt Butter: Place a large pot over low heat and melt the ½ cup butter carefully to avoid browning.
- Add Sugar Cookie Mix: Stir in the ½ cup sugar cookie mix into the melted butter and cook continuously for 1 minute to blend flavors.
- Melt Marshmallows: Add the entire bag of large marshmallows to the pot. Stir continuously over low heat until they are fully melted and combined smoothly with the butter and sugar cookie mixture.
- Combine Cereal: Remove the pot from heat, then add 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Gently fold the cereal into the marshmallow mixture using a spatula or wooden spoon. Spraying the utensil with cooking spray beforehand helps prevent sticking.
- Add Mini Marshmallows and Sprinkles: Mix in 1/3 cup mini marshmallows and 2 tablespoons of sprinkles. Some marshmallows will soften while others remain intact, adding texture.
- Shape the Treats: Gently spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking tray, pressing down lightly just enough to form a consistent layer without compressing too hard.
- Decorate: Sprinkle additional sprinkles over the top for a festive appearance.
- Cool and Cut: Allow the mixture to cool for 30 minutes at room temperature until set. Then cut into 18 to 24 squares and serve.
Notes
- Use cooking spray on your spatula to prevent the sticky mixture from adhering to it while mixing.
- Do not press the treats too firmly into the pan to maintain a light, crispy texture.
- For best results, let the treats cool completely before cutting to avoid crumbling.
- This recipe is adaptable for different occasions by switching up the sprinkle colors.
- Keep the treats stored in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
