Description

A quick and delightful Crispy Honey-Garlic Tofu recipe that combines golden, crunchy tofu cubes with a sticky, flavorful honey-garlic sauce. Perfect for a satisfying vegetarian meal served with rice or vegetables, this dish takes just 30 minutes from start to finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu

  • 14 oz (400 g) firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Sauce

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar (optional)

Garnish

  • Sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu: Drain the tofu and press it using paper towels or a tofu press for about 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Once drained, cut the tofu into medium-sized cubes to ensure even cooking.
  2. Coat and fry tofu: Toss the tofu cubes in cornstarch until they are fully coated, which will help achieve a crispy texture when fried. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat, then fry the tofu cubes until they are golden and crispy on all sides. Once done, remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Make the honey-garlic sauce: In the same skillet, remove any excess oil if necessary, then add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar, stirring and allowing the mixture to bubble and thicken slightly over medium heat.
  4. Toss tofu in sauce: Return the fried tofu to the skillet and toss it thoroughly in the thickened honey-garlic sauce until all pieces are evenly coated and well glazed.
  5. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Serve the crispy honey-garlic tofu hot alongside steamed rice or your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Pressing tofu is essential to get a crispy texture and prevent sogginess.
  • Rice vinegar is optional but adds a subtle tang that balances the sweetness of honey.
  • Use firm or extra-firm tofu for best results to hold shape during frying.
  • For a vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • Serve immediately to maintain the tofu’s crispiness.
