- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves, then cooled)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
Beverage
- 1 cup club soda, chilled
- Flavored syrup of your choice (such as raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, or amaretto) – start with 2 tablespoons
- Ice cubes
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream
- Maraschino cherries
Instructions
- Prepare the Cream Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the heavy cream, simple syrup, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Whisk the Mixture: Whisk the cream mixture vigorously for about 1-2 minutes until it thickens slightly and becomes frothy, able to hold its shape a little.
- Chill the Cream Mixture: Set the whipped cream mixture aside. Refrigerate if not using immediately to keep it cold and fresh.
- Fill Glass with Ice: Fill a tall glass with plenty of ice cubes to chill the drink thoroughly.
- Add Flavored Syrup: Pour 2 tablespoons of your choice of flavored syrup over the ice in the glass. Adjust the amount based on your taste preferences.
- Pour Club Soda: Carefully pour the chilled club soda over the syrup and ice, leaving about an inch or two of space at the top for the cream mixture.
- Add Cream Mixture: Gently pour the prepared cream mixture over the club soda so it floats on top, creating a layered effect.
- Top and Garnish: Add whipped cream on top and garnish with a maraschino cherry if desired for an extra festive touch.
- Serve Immediately: Serve the Italian Cream Soda right away to enjoy the creamy, fizzy, and refreshing flavors at their best.
Notes
- Simple syrup can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
- Adjust the amount of flavored syrup to control the sweetness of your soda.
- For a lighter version, use half-and-half instead of heavy cream, but the texture will be less thick.
- Use chilled ingredients to keep the drink refreshing and prevent the cream from melting quickly.
- Feel free to experiment with different flavored syrups to create unique variations.
