Description

Mango Habanero Honey Garlic Sauce is a vibrant blend of sweet ripe mango, fiery habanero peppers, and savory garlic, balanced with honey, vinegar, and soy sauce. This versatile sauce can be used as a spicy glaze for grilled meats, a zesty dipping sauce, or a flavorful drizzle over tacos and roasted vegetables, offering a perfect explosion of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and chopped (or 1 cup mango puree)
  • 2 habanero peppers (seeds removed for less heat, or keep them if you want more spice)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust for desired sauce consistency)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mango: If using fresh mango, peel and chop into small chunks. Skip this step if using mango puree.
  2. Cook the Sauce Base: Heat olive oil over medium heat in a medium saucepan. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Add chopped mango and habanero peppers, stir well, and cook for 3-4 minutes until mango softens.
  3. Blend the Sauce: Add honey, vinegar, soy sauce, ground ginger (if using), and a pinch of salt and pepper to the saucepan. Stir and cook for 2-3 minutes. Use an immersion blender to puree until smooth; alternatively, transfer to a blender and blend until creamy. Add water gradually (starting with 1/4 cup) to reach desired consistency.
  4. Simmer the Sauce: Return blended sauce to saucepan. Simmer gently over low heat for 5-10 minutes to deepen flavors and thicken slightly. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional honey, vinegar, salt, or pepper as desired.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove from heat and cool slightly before serving. Use as a glaze brushed on grilled meats or vegetables, or serve as a dipping sauce or drizzle over tacos and roasted veggies.

Notes

  • For more heat, keep habanero seeds or add additional peppers like jalapeños or serranos.
  • Try substituting mango with pineapple, peach, or papaya for different fruit flavors.
  • Add smoked paprika or liquid smoke for a smoky flavor variation.
  • If using as a glaze, apply during the last few minutes of cooking to prevent burning the honey.
  • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
